The ground is shaking. Microsoft support for ESX?

A few weeks ago Microsoft launched what it called the Server Virtualization Validation Program (SVVP). The basic premise is that vendors submit their Hypervisors to Microsoft who test them for Windows compatibility and give them certification.

Well, as of yesterday, VMware ESX 3.5 update 2 is a commercially supported hypervisor virtualization platform within Microsoft.

The key thing to note in the linked press release is:

Customers with support policies in place, and running Windows Server-based applications on VMware ESX 3.5u2, can receive cooperative technical support from Microsoft

All versions of Windows Server, 2008 and lower are as supported on ESX 3.5 update 2 as they are under Microsoft EOL and end of support policies.
